My uni art course (in school VET course or TAFE for those Aussies who know what im talking about) is finished for the year now, unfortunately the classroom at the university i was in is one of the art exhibition rooms for end of year displays so my course was cut by 4 weeks

So i should be getting an art certificate in the mail soon!!!
I got to clean a skull from scratch for the first time! it was an amazing experience and i want to do it again sometime. It was pretty sad at first because the animal i cleaned was a bush stone curlew:
[link] which was the baby of a family of curlews that i have been photographing and watching. It was hit by a car and on the side of the road, a friend mentioning a strange bird getting hit on her way to school in the morning so i asked her to show me and i took it home with me (it was freshly dead) and froze it. My friend mentioned that i should stuff and mount the curlew but it was missing quite a few feathers around the rump so it'd look bodgey if i did

So i decided i should clean the head and get the skull insted

May sound pretty gross but its quite fun, skinning, gouging eyes out, striping the muscle off the bone and getting the brain out, the only problem i think was that i didnt take pictures of the process, and i ruined the skull by leaving it in Hydrogen Peroxide for longer than i was told to....so it fell apart in the end

But i dont think it was completely my fault for it falling apart, but also the fact the curlew was a juvenile, meaning the head plates wernt connected and hardened like they would for an adult.
So im hoping to find myself a cat to try next time for skull cleaning....going for my L plate in November so im sure ill get myself a cat during some driving lessons

Just have to pass the theory part first...
And im sorry for lack of activity from me, bugger all art passing through my brain right now since my art major is due real soon (school finishes up in 3-4 weeks for me) and im nowhere near finished, plus my major piece is pretty big (A2) and done completely in graphite pencil. I'll definatly take a picture of it when im done though so everyone can see. But to give you an idea of what im doing, its a extreem close-up of an owl, thats all the little feathers which i hate but love doing on a bloody huge page...but its looking pretty nice so far and i havent given up on it yet so i guess im doing good.

These animals that you painted WITHOUT any reference...
*speechless*
Did you take lessons or something like that?
I'm 16 as well and I don't have the time to draw much at home. And do you?
Don't you have classes till evening in Australia as well? o_O
no i havent taken lessons but the odd art class at school which are really basic and i havent really learnt anything new from that.
well i draw during school in classes like english or maths cos im lazy, but i tend to draw whenever i have time on my hands or am bothered at least, you should try squeeze in some time to draw if you want to exceed and improve, it helped me anyway.
yeah, classes start 8-9am and finish either 2-3pm, tho sometimes my classes start around 11am cos of free lines

I want to become a vet, so I don't can be lazy. ><
I need to have very good grades.
Classes here start at 8 am and finish around 4-5 pm, on friday 1 am.
Do you take references from a book or from the internet? I can't print the pics, because these ink cartridges are too expensive...
So I have problems in finding pics. -.-
Do you use pastel chalks or pastel pencils?
And which coloured pencils do you use? o_O
Thanks! ^^
i usually dont print of refs from the computer for the same reason as u, i just draw them straight off the computer to save ink, only printing them off if im going somewhere such as school to draw.
i mainly use the pastel pencils cos of the less mess, they may take a hell of alot longer but id rather a clean table
